Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $80,714,672)

With more than 3,600 local Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide, Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) is the fastest-growing youth development organization in the United States.

Often located in the nation's most distressed neighborhoods, Boys & Girls Clubs offer children and teenagers safe havens where they can explore their potential and enhance their futures.

The Boys & Girls Club Movement ' which includes the national organization and the many affiliated but independent Boys & Girls Clubs around the country ' has enjoyed a rich heritage of service to youth. In fact, its success in serving this nation's youth most in need has led it to grow at an unprecedented rate over the past several years. BGCA's current strategic plan calls for the Movement to serve some 5 million children in a minimum of 4,000 Club facilities by year-end 2006. NCA/NCF
