Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $335,385)
The Juvenile and Family Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program is designed to assist states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments in developing and establishing drug courts for substance-abusing and juvenile offenders. Drug court programs funded by the Juvenile and Family Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program are required by law to target nonviolent offenders. The Program supports the following activities: Juvenile drug court implementation, Family drug court implementation, Single jurisdiction drug court enhancement, Statewide drug court enhancement, and planning efforts. The Second Judicial Circuit Solicitors Office will use these grant funds to operate a juvenile drug court serving Aiken County, South Carolina. The drug court will have the capacity to monitor and treat 25 juveniles at any one time. The program will serve non-violent adjudicated juveniles ages 12-17, with no history of violent offense or long- term incarceration. Funds will be focused on immediate intervention and treatment, improving functioning, promotion of delinquent and drug-free lives, and improving family functioning through parental awareness, structure and guidance. The grantee will report performance measures that include 1) number of participants arrested for drug charges while participating in the drug court and 2) number of graduates (participants who have completed all treatment).CA/NCF
