Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $450,000)
The Juvenile and Family Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program is designed to assist states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments in developing and establishing drug courts for substance-abusing and juvenile offenders. Drug court programs funded by the Juvenile and Family Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program are required by law to target nonviolent offenders. The Program supports the following activities: Juvenile drug court implementation, Family drug court implementation, Single jurisdiction drug court enhancement, Statewide drug court enhancement, and planning efforts. The Judiciary Courts of the State of Florida will use these grant funds to operate a juvenile drug court serving Santa Rosa County. The drug court will have the capacity to monitor and treat 30 juveniles at any one time, and will screen over 200 juveniles annually. The juveniles will range from 14-18 years of age and will have no history of violent offense adjudication, but will have a willingness to participate in the program and parental support. Funds will be focused on contracting the juvenile drug court coordinator, case manager and other personnel, on drug testing and treatment services, on supplies for the drug court, and on supporting the process and outcome evaluation components of the project. The grantee will report performance measures that include 1) the number of participants arrested for drug charges while participating in the drug court, and 2)the number of graduates (participants who have completed all treatment).
