Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2004, $1,199,848)

University of Colorado researcher Dr. David Olds and his colleagues will conduct two interrelated studies aimed at assessing the long-term impacts of prenatal and infancy home visitation by nurses (Nurse Family Partnership, NFP) on children and their families. The first study examines the extent to which the NFP influences low-income parents' decisions about where to live and the extent to which higher neighborhood quality may moderate or account for NFP's impact on women and their children. The second study augments a longitudinal, randomized, controlled trial of NFP which examines the program's impact on children when services are delivered by paraprofessionals versus nurses. Both studies incorporate rigorous evaluations, which include use of control groups, large sample sizes, long-term follow-up, and detailed analysis of socioeconomic, health, educational, and juvenile delinquency indicators.

University of Colorado will report their findings to OJJDP in the grantee's Categorical Assistance Progress Reports. NCA/NCF
