Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2004, $247,369)

Through the addition of a Children's Program Specialist, this project seeks to implement and manage 5 program enhancements: 1. Increase parents' awareness of the effects of exposure to violence on their children. 2. Implement a curriculum to increase the effective parenting of children exposed to violence. 3. Develop/implement an academically enriched environment for children that will positively impact their school performance. 4. Work with Community Action Stops Abuse (CASA)'s paid and volunteer staff to develop their skills to provide the specialized curriculum. Work with CASA's volunteer coordinator to train youth advocacy volunteers in the newly structured methods described. 5. Work with children and the proposed IT Engineer to maximize CASA's computer laboratory.
Performance measures will be developed with the assistance of the Safe Start Collaborative.
