Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2004, $296,829)

The Vermont Children's Forum's "Our Voices: Our Community (OV:OC)Youth Leadership Development Project" seeks to increase leadership skills among teens and expand youth and adult partnerships across Vermont to improve young people's self-esteem and social skills and to empower them to be involved in their schools and communities. Grant funds will support training facilitators who will conduct 16 OV:OC classes, including piloting the classes in two school districts with historically low graduation rates, and training staff of the correctional system's education program in the OV:OC curriculum. Ultimately, a key objective of the project is to enhance the leadership skills of at least 300 youth.
