The Boys and Girls Clubs of Omaha will implement a gang prevention strategy that targets 50 youth ages 8 to 15 and provide them with the skills needed to resist gangs and delinquent behavior. Boys and Girls Clubs have collaborated with the Omaha police department, juvenile probation, the local school district and Douglas County Detention Center to develop a community based strategy called Street Smart. The Street Smart strategy will provide youth the tools needed to become positive peer leaders by implementing three modules over an eight week period during the school year and a four week period during the summer. Street Smart modules are 1) Gang Awareness and Resistance 2) Conflict Resolution 3) Positive Peer Helpers. Boys and Girls Clubs staff will provide intake assessment , community outreach and case management services. The performance measures will include reduced delinquent behavior among the participants as measured by self report, official school and law enforcement records and improved family support has measured by a pre and post participation interview.NCA/NCF
