Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2004, $247,369)
The UMWA Career Centers Inc. will implement an outreach crisis program for youth in the rural Appalachia area of Washington, Pennsylvania. The goal of the program is to address juvenile behaviors that are the result of community and family stress. To accomplish this goal the United Mine Workers of America Career Center proposes to partner with community organizations to identify at risk youth and provide needed intervention and job training opportunities to youth. The program will offer workshops, seminars tutoring and group support to improve the lives of fifty youth. The program will report performance measures that include community satisfaction surveys, increased school attendance, and job training skills learned. NCA/NCF
