Chess for Success, an after-school program, has been implemented in high-poverty schools in the Portland, OR, School District since 1992. This project will conduct a two-year, systematic evaluation of the program, using a matched comparison group to examine the program's impact on student academic achievement, self-esteem, and behavior. The project will also include a process evaluation of project implementation, with special attention to conditions which facilitate or hinder fidelity to the program model.NCA/NCF
