The Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts (ULEM)'s initiative builds on its successful history of conceptualizing and offering education-enhancing programs to local students and their care givers.
The goal of TU-LEAP, Tomorrow's Urban Leaders Excelling in Academic Performance, is to improve the academic achievement and performance levels of our target population (low-income, ethnic minority and limited English proficient middle-school youngsters).in the areas of Dorchester, Mattapan, Jamaica Plain, the South End, and Roslindale of Boston.
TU-LEAP students will follow a daily schedule wherein the administering of needed and planned program components are alternated/staggered. These components include Academic Enrichment, Life Skill & Personal Growth, Community/Business/Industry Involvement, and Caregiver Involvement. Component activities include homework assistance, tutoring, guest speakers, field trips, computer/technology usage, community service projects and career exploration opportunities.
ULEM is introducing this initiative to address an increasingly critical need in our community to improve the academic outcomes of 30 middle school students.NCA/NCF
