Sistas & Brothas United (SBU) Youth Leadership Program, an affiliate of the Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition (NWBCCC), is a grassroots, membership-led organization of low and moderate-income junior and senior high school students in the Northwest Bronx. Through a combination of leadership development training, organizing campaigns, and direct action, SBU helps young people work together to improve their neighborhoods, and serves as an alternative to gang and drug cultures prevalent in the community. Sistas and Brothas United's goals are twofold: 1) Build teenage civic leaders in low income areas of the West Bronx through leadership development and school/neighborhood involvement; and 2) Improve the academic preparation and performance of SBU participants through a peer tutoring program. Performance will be measured by an increase in participants' leadership skills, and improvements in students' grades, school/project attendance and standardized test scores on State English and Math Regents exams. These measures will be reported to OJJDP in the grantee's Categorical Assistance Progress Reports. NCA/NCF
