Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2003, $339,455)

This book, modeled on the NCJFCJ's other judicial benchbooks, RESOURCE GUIDELINES: Improving Court Practice in Child Abuse & Neglect Cases and ADOPTION AND PERMANENCY GUIDELINES: Improving Court Practice in Child Abuse and Neglect Cases, will introduce and advocate a set of comprehensive guidelines to improve court and systems handling of juvenile delinquency cases. The document will provide a blueprint for improving practice and will be used by judges, court administrators, and other child welfare professionals nationwide as a guide for examining practice, identifying problem areas, and planning for and implementing change. Building on the success of previous GUIDELINES, the JUVENILE DELINQUENCY GUIDELINES will include a series of judicial benchcards in addition to a thorough presentation of the court process as it applies to the handling of these cases. This award will complete the necessary funding for years 2 and 3 of Phase I of the project, which specifically focuses on developing, writing, obtaining endorsements for, and dissemination of the document.
