Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2003, $44,624)
This award will allow the Boys & Girls Club of America (B&GCA), now serving more than 3.3 million youth, employing more than 11,300 full-time and 22,500 part-time youth professionals, and organizing the efforts of more than 200,000 volunteers, to continue their work in FY 2003. Specifically, they will: (1) expand and enhance Boys & Girls Clubs and their programs and services so as to significantly increase the total number of youth served by Boys & Girls Clubs, including the establishment of new Club operating sites; (2) support and strengthen Boys & Girls Club services through enhanced programs, organizational capacity-building efforts, and continuation/sustainability support; and (3) decrease the negative impacts of the "digital divide" through the installation and use of current generation technology, particularly the establishment of new youth technology centers; through the development, implementation, and utilization of resources, tools, and training to ensure youth Internet use in safe and positive environments.
