Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2003, $298,050)

The Community Coalition for Teens (CCT), through the Franklin Regional Council of Governments (FRCOG), a regional organization serving the Franklin County/North Quabbin region in western Massachusetts, propose a three pronged strategy to address youth substance abuse, especially high rates of alcohol and marijuana use, and substance dependency. These three strategies all fill gaps in our current array of community and school-based services, and complement the activities we are currently engaged in with funding from OJJDP's Drug Free Communities Support Program.
These activities include: 1. A curricular initiative to fund and support six local schools at the elementary and middle school levels; 2. Selection and implementation of a therapeutic support program for teens who are problem users of alcohol; and 3. The initiation of a teen recovery program.
