Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2003, $124,188)
The County of Wise Virginia, Lonesome Pine Youth Service will develop and implement a delinquency prevention and youth development program in the communities of Wise County and the City of Norton. The program will utilize the Youth Service Board and the Office of Youth to develop a community based needs assessment to determine joint interagency projects that should be implemented. The Lonesome Pine Office and Youth Service Board will implement education programs that include: 1)Virginia Real Entrepreneurship Program,2) Stay for Life (Skills Training for Area Youth Learning Initiative for Future Employment) Project at Bush Mill, 3) The Graduated Sanctions/ Continuum of Care Program, 4) The Young Juvenile Offender Initiative,5) Not in Control (NIC) a youth tobacco-use prevention and cessation program. The County of Wise will belooking to replicate a successful Juvenile Drug Court. The assessment planning process will examine this option.
