Measure the effectiveness of The First Tee's Life Skills Experience

The World Golf Foundation will continue to implement its First Tee program which provides children from lower socio economic and ethnic backgrounds with a life skills curriculum and conducts research on a group of children who have completed the life skills program. The First Tee Life Skills curriculum provides three levels that focus on 1) fundamental communication and self management skills 2) goal setting 3) resistance to unhealthy behavior skills and enhanced instruction of communication and goal setting. The World Golf Foundation will provide resources to build the capacity of its local chapters to increase enrollment and establish a data tracking for participants of the Life Skills Certification Program. The World Golf Foundation will report performance measures that include the number of First Tee chapters that meet target enrollment goals and the number of children that complete each certification level of the First Tee program. The research for this phase of evaluation will be conducted by the University of Virginia and Boise State University.NCA/NCF
The World Golf Foundation will implement three components to its First Tee, Life Skills program that provides inner city youth with a learning experience which promotes character development and nine core, life-enhancing values (responsibility, sportsmanship, perseverance, confidence, judgment, honesty, respect, courtesy and integrity) through golf. Additionally, the youth will learn resistance skills as apart of the Life Skills program. The World Golf Foundation will provide performance measures on three goals 1) establish at least 40 new chapters serving over 31,000 youth, 2) increase the number of children participating in the National School Program by 20% and 3) issue a research report that will show the effects of the life skills program has on the participants.NCA/NCF
