Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2003, $496,750)

The mission of Youth For Tomorrow (YTF) is to provide a residential home; family counseling center; and a safe, healthy and intellectually stimulating school environment in which at-risk adolescent youth can make positive behavior adjustments and develop the self-discipline, and motivation necessary to become responsible and productive members of society. This YFT application focuses on addressing the specific challenges of increased enrollment. Specifically:
(1) Providing guidance and redirection to at-risk youth who have demonstrated difficulty in conforming to social norms.
(2) Strengthening family bonds and encouraging more effective communication and mutual respect within the family structure.
(3) Providing an atmosphere supportive to recovering substance abusers.
(4)Providing residents the opportunity to improve academic performance, excel appropriately and to meet the educational needs of high school students.
(5)Providing participants the opportunity to apply principles and skills acquired in the residential program to life situations.
(6)Providing residents entering an independent living environment with the necessary tools, strategies, and confidence to obtain and maintain productive employment.
(7)Provide support and encouragement to residents who have completed the YFT program and have either returned home or entered into an independent living situation.
