Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2003, $993,500)

This award will support development of the National Child Protection Development and Training Center (NCPDTC) at Winona State University (WSU) to better educate mandated reporters of abuse and neglect and improve performance of professionals in the CP field. The Center will be developed through a partnership between WSU and APRI's National Center for the Prosecution of Child Abuse. The primary approaches to professional development of this program are (1) create and make available to higher education institutions a model college curriculum; (2) develop a national training, technical assistance and resource center for child protection attorneys, social workers and other professionals who handle the civil side of CP cases; and increase resources supporting Half a Nation, NCPCA's program to develop state forensic interviewing training institutes.
