Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2003, $704,238)

The purpose of this program is to help prevent underage drinking and its problems. Environmentally-focused Youth In Action (YIA) projects will be conducted in 20 communities where students work to reduce social and retail availability of alcohol and create a stand-alone project media kit that can be utilized by other youth-serving organizations. A Multi-Media Assembly program will be presented to secondary schools to encourage youth activism and shift attitudes regarding underage drinking. A Kids In Action project, a pilot program for middle school aged children, will be designed to address the gap that exists in programs for middle school aged children.
