The Appropriations Act of 2001, December 21, 2000 Public Law 106-553, appropriated $12.5 million for the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) to support and enhance tribal efforts for comprehensive delinquency prevention and control and for juvenile justice systems improvement for Native American youth. Tribal communities will address the problem of juvenile crime by undertaking one or more of the following:
Provide prevention services to impact risk factors for delinquency.
Provide interventions for court-involved tribal youth.
Improve tribal juvenile justice system.
Provide alcohol and drug abuse prevention programs.
