The Appropriations Act of 2001, December 21, 2000, Public Law 106-553, appropriated $12.5 million for the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) to support and enhance tribal efforts for comprehensive delinquency prevention and control and for juvenile justice system improvement for Native American youth. Tribal communities will address the problem of juvenile crime by undertaking one or more of the following:
Reduce, control, and prevent crime and delinquency both by and against tribal youth.
Provide interventions for court-involved tribal youth.
Improve tribal juvenile justice systems.
Provide prevention programs focusing on alcohol and drugs.
