Father Flanagan's Boys Home (Girls and Boys Town) will continue to implement its short term staff-secure residential program for Female Juvenile Offenders Center in two sites, Newark, New Jersey and New Orleans, Louisiana. The program provides a safe staff secure placement for female juvenile offenders who do not require placement in a detention facility and cannot return home. Generally, the length of stay in these facilities is expected to range from fourteen to ninety days. The youth are individually treated with a focus on long and short-term goals, including teaching of life skills, promoting behavior change in targeted problematic areas, and imparting of academic curricula. The center relates these skills through a community-based philosophy, as it creates a family-style atmosphere including family-style meals, sharing of chores and an emphasis on relationships with staff. There is a greater goal of community reintegration and equipping the female juvenile offenders with the skills and tools to prevent recidivism. The program is dedicated to gender-specific policies and programming in response to a growing young female offender population.Impact/Focus: Project impact and focus is dedicated to equipping young female offenders with the skills and tools to prevent recidivism. The goal of the program is to assess a females needs and provide appropriate gender specific skills to successfully reintegrate the youth into a family type setting or a longer term community based placement.

Father Flanagan Girls and Boys Town will continue to provide short term treatment and assessment services for female juvenile offenders in four Girls and Boys Town sites located in Georgia, Louisiana, New Jersey and Philadelphia, PA. The goals of the program are 1) to provide female offenders with a family style, female specific program using the Girls and Boys Town teaching model in a staff secure setting, 2) to improve interpersonal relationships 3) to incorporate a balanced and restorative justice model that provides student involvement and participation in self government /community activities. Girls and Boys Town will continue to cooperate with NIJ in a program evaluation and will report performance measures that include fewer arrests, improved attendance and academic performance.NCA/NCF
