The University of South Carolina's Violence and Substance Abuse Prevention Center (VSAC) will provide a comprehensive youth development program to reduce or prevent at-risk behaviors among middle and high school students in South Carolina and the Southeast Region of the nation. In an effort to accomplish this mission, VSAC utilizes both didactic and experiential learning activities as the basis of its youth leadership development program. VSAC will continue to offer programming in the form of Youth Leadership Clubs. As part of this activity, middle and high school students at selected sites participate in a leadership training curriculum. Thr students also have the opportunity to participate in a Summer Institute of leadership. In addition, VSAC will conduct a focused examination of the South Carolina experience with rage among young people. This project will include interviews with youth, their teachers, and school administrators in an effort to identify future programming needs.
