demonstrate efforts among public agencies, private organizations, ì
county, State, and Federal agencies, in addition, to the U.S. ì
Attorney's Anti-Violence Initiative. Each jurisdiction will ì
implement jurisdiction-wide community policing and dispute ì
resolution, Boys & Girls Clubs, community prosecution and ì
diversion, drug courts and community-based alternatives to ì
incarceration are available to each of the jurisdictions.
The supplemental award continues the Comprehensive Communities initiative ì
for the East Bay Public Safety Corridor Partnership, administered ì
by the East Bay Community Foundation, to provide strategic ì
planning among the cities within the Partnership for crime ì
prevention, intervention and control; to coordinate the strategy ì
among public and private organizations and the communities; and ì
to implement specific activities under this strategy. The ì
initiative will continue and expand strategic planning and ì
project activities related the following elements: community ì
policing, community mobilization, and comprehensive youth ì
violence and gang activities.
The University of South Alabama Youth Violence Prevention Initiative supports basic and applied research concerning: (1) Identification of the causes of youth violence; (2) Development of research-based interventions that reduce the rate of youth violence; and (3) Testing of effectiveness of the violence prevention initiatives. An expert advisory panel, external to USA, evaluates research proposals developed by USA faculty and makes recommendations for funding. The initiative is multidisciplinary, supporting research from a number of different fields of study, and interdisciplinary, supporting projects that cross disciplinary batteries. This proposal request for funds is to support year three of the initiative (9/1/03 to 8/31/04). NCA/NCF
