Project Summary for 2001-JS-FX-0006

This project is designed to "rehabilitate minor offenders and prevent potential criminal behavior". The Culver City Police Department collaborates with the local school district and involves the parents and the youth in a sixteen week, professionally led counseling session. The sessions are designed to divert youth from gang activity, criminal activity, and on improving maturity, decision-making skills, academic standings, and communication skills. The existing program allows for four groups per year and serves approximately 40-60 youth annually.

This grant will allow the Culver City Police to expand the staff, upgrade camping and field trips, purchase equipment and lease vehicles for the program. The grant will specifically provide for two police officers (juvenile detectives) to monitor the juveniles and families that graduate.
