Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2001, $99,585)
The Fond du Lac School District is the fiscal agent for the Fond du Lac School Health Coalition. Fond du Lac County is located on the southern shore of Lake Winnebago in east central Wisconsin and has a population of approximately 97,781. The goals of the coalition are to 1) reduce substance abuse among youth and over time, among adults and 2) strengthen the collaboration among communities, governments, and private non-profit agencies to support community coalition efforts to prevent and reduce substance abuse. To achieve those goals, the coalition will implement the following strategies:
1) increase the perception of harmful effects of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs;
2) support middle and high school peer prevention programming;
3) expand capacity to deliver health-related services under a comprehensive school health model;
4) increase youth protection factors;
5) plan and implement alternative drug-free activities;
6) support clerk/server training and compliance checks;
7) increase the number of substance abuse prevention program initiatives established by and coordinated through the Fond du Lac Area School Health Coalition;
8) recruit new members and further strengthen the community coalition; and
9) increase the number of Fond du Lac area citizens volunteering or participating in the planning or delivery of substance abuse prevention-related services or programs. CA/NCF
