PROJECT SUMMARY FOR 2001-JN-FX-0126 (S-3)
Mendocino County Department of Public Health is the fiscal agent for the Asset Building Coalition (ABC). The coalition serves Mendocino County, California, a rural area with a population of 88,200. The Asset Building Coalition has two goals: 1) to reduce substance abuse among Mendocino County youth; and 2) to strengthen collaboration among ABC members to increase their capacity to prevent and reduce youth substance abuse. To achieve these goals, the coalition will implement the following strategies:
1) develop a long-term strategic plan;
2) increase the number of collaborative opportunities for coalition members,
supporting agencies, and the community;
3) increase knowledge of substance abuse prevention strategies, including asset
building and youth development;
4) incorporate asset-building principles into the programs and activities of
community agencies and businesses;
5) provide youth with positive alternative activities;
6) reduce community acceptance of drug use; and,
7) provide youth with the opportunities to build their internal and external assets
as defined by the Search Institute.
