Project Summary for 2001-JN-FX-0076
The Scottsdale Prevention Institute is the fiscal agent for the Community Mobilization Project, a program of the LINKS Community Collaborative. The coalition serves Maricopa County, AZ, including Scottsdale and North Phoenix. The population of the target area is 215,030. In its most recent grant year, the coalition continued to implement its program goals and objectives by creating specific "portable" program delivery approaches for the parenting portions of the community mobilization project; holding a larger number of community forums with smaller numbers of participants in order to allow the participants more freedom to voice concerns and ideas and to allow participants to be involved in their own geographic area; and providing technical assistance via electronic means, which has greatly enhanced the overall success of the program's implementation.
To achieve the two goals of reducing substance abuse among youth and strengthening community anti-drug coalitions, this coalition will implement the following strategies: 1) identifying and mobilizing resources through a comprehensive communitywide needs assessment and gaps analysis that allows for continuous feedback to program implementation; 2) building capacity by providing prevention specialists with training in multiple "Best Practice" programs; 3) facilitating proven programs that follow site-based needs assessment to link appropriate programs to specific populations; 4) recruiting and retaining participants and clients; and 5) holding staff accountable by maintaining weekly service logs.
