Cooperative Educational Service Agency #5 is the fiscal agent for the Columbia County Connects Coalition. The Columbia County Connects Coalition serves Columbia County, WI, a rural area with a population of approximately 53,862. The goals of the coalition are to 1) reduce substance abuse among youth and over time among adults by addressing the factors in a community that serve to minimize the risk of substance abuse and 2) to strengthen the collaboration among communities, governments, and private non-profit agencies to support community coalition efforts to prevent and reduce substance abuse. To achieve those goals, the coalition will implement the following strategies:
1) increase citizen and multi-sector membership and collaboration;
2) increase community awareness of drug-related issues through greater collaboration with community partners;
3) increase parental involvement and boundary setting through parent and community action team services;
4) increase communication between youth and their parents regarding substance abuse;
5) provide awareness, education, and training of assets;
6) support family activities in each of the communities to increase family/child/school bonding;
7) increase youth community service opportunities; and
8) establish a coordinated system response to juvenile offenses in the Columbia County. CA/NCF
