Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2001, $299,492)
The drug court program will target nonviolent youth, ages 12-18, who are arrested and have a substance abuse history. The program will serve 90 youths and up to seventy family members, within two years. Participants are expected to engage in the program for a minimum of nine months. The program will provide early, continuous and intensive judicially supervised treatment, mandatory drug testing, graduated sanctions, expanded aftercare and other rehabilitative services. The program will also hire a counselor to implement a girls groups which will address the specific concerns of female youth in a supportive and confidential manner. Additionally, an automated management information system will be used to monitor client progress. Outcome and process evaluations also will be conducted.
