Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2001, $481,227)
Grant funds will be used to implement a tribal juvenile drug court program on the Pyramid Lake Paiute Reservation, which offers clients counseling and substance abuse treatment services under close court supervision. The court will enter clients into the program post-adjudication and their cases may be dismissed upon successful completion of the program. Approximately 75 clients (150-200 family members) will participate in the program for an average of 8-12 months. The court's goal is to reduce recidivism, encourage juveniles and their families to lead drug-free lifestyles, decrease juvenile court dockets, and provide positive opportunities for juveniles and families to improve their education, health and welfare. The program will incorporate the traditional Native American philosophy of healing and wellness.
