The Omnibus Consolidated and Emergency Supplemental Appropriation Act of 1999,October 19,1998 (public Law 105-277), appropriated $ 10 million for the Office of Juvenile Justice and delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) to support and enhance tribal efforts for comprehensive delinquency prevention and control and for juvenile justice system improvement for Native American youth. Tribal communities will address the problem of juvenile crime by undertaking one or more of the following:
Reduce, control, and prevent crime and delinquency both by and against tribal youth.
Provide interventions for court-involved tribal youth.
Improve tribal juvenile justice systems.
Provide prevention programs focusing on alcohol and drugs.
