Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2000, $84,507)
The Substance Abuse Council of Greater Battle Creek serves Calhoun County, MI, an urban community with a population of approximately 137,985. To achieve the two goals of reducing substance abuse among youth and strengthening community antidrug coalitions, the coalition will implement the following strategies: 1) provide prevention activities for both youth and families; 2) hold ongoing sessions of the Strengthening Families Program and a separate Youth Forum; 3) evaluate and report findings from Strengthening Families Program youth questionnaire involving at least 200 youth in prevention activities, 4) increase parental involvement in antidrug discussions with youth through the Strengthening Families Program, 5) strengthen coalition through facilitating community cooperation and coordinating services, and 6) implement a comprehensive communitywide media plan. ca/ncf
