FY 2004 Drug-Free Communities Support Program

The Mercer County Behavioral Health Commission acts as the fiscal agent for the ERASE (Endorse Resistance of All Substance Abuse Everywhere) coalition. The coalition serves the communities of Farrell and Sharon, PA, a geographically diverse area with a combined population of approximately 22,378. To achieve the two goals of reducing substance abuse among youth and of strengthening community anti-drug coalitions, the ERASE coalition, will implement the following strategies:
1) improve neighborhood environments in order to increase the perception of community bonding and to reduce drug-related activity;
2) decrease the availability of tobacco to underage youth through a media campaign and merchant training;
3) increase citizen participation through the mobilization and maintenance of neighborhood associations;
4) increase collaboration between youth and adults by maintaining an active youth focus group;
5) enhance research-based prevention planning and program delivery participating in proven prevention program training;
6) expand the community profile data bank to monitor prevention efforts; and
7) monitor and manage the coalition's strategic plan to achieve sustainability. CA/NCF
