The Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Council (ADAC) of Orange County is the fiscal agent for the Community Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Abuse (CAPSA). The Alliance serves Orange County, NY, a predominantly rural area with a population of 341,367. The goals of the Alliance are to: 1) promote countywide prevention efforts; 2) mobilize communities in Orange County to create anti-drug coalitions; 3) support emerging and existing community coalitions that address youth alcohol, tobacco, and drug use; and 4) enhance efforts to address the specific problem of underage drinking by Orange County youth. To achieve these goals, the coalition will implement the following strategies:
1) develop a 2-year countywide, youth-risk prevention action plan for interagency collaboration and community action;
2) support the implementation of effective programs to promote healthy decision making;
3) increase awareness of underage drinking problems; and
4) sponsor community-based trainings to implement environmental prevention strategies that reduce substance abuse and other problem behaviors in youth.
