The Framingham Police Department is the fiscal agent to the Framingham Coalition for the Prevention of Alcohol and Drug Abuse. The first goal of the coalition is to reduce substance abuse through youth-driven community building and leadership prevention initiatives designed to change social and cultural norms related to substance use and abuse. The second goal is to utilize the Business Action Team to reduce the social, health, personal, and economic costs associated with the use of substances by reducing use and/or abuse among its workforce and community. The third goal is to enhance community prevention efforts through outreach designed to increase the involvement of Framingham residents in coalition activities. The fourth goal is to secure increased in-kind and financial support by 25 percent in order to provide long term stability. The fifth goal is to increase the coalition's capacity to develop and implement strategies designed to change norms and attitudes related to youth and/or adult substance use and abuse, through increasing access to information related to the effects of alcohol, tobacco, and drug abuse, and to available community resources to change norms. And the sixth goal is to reduce substance use and abuse by youth and adults by enhancing the access and availability of alternative healthy leisure time activities that are alcohol and tobacco free.
