Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2000, $100,000)

The Sonoma County Health Partnership serves Sonoma County, CA a semi-rural area with a population of 468,386. The goals of the program are to: 1) reduce alcohol and other drugs among youth; and 2) strengthen and expand the partnership's prevention efforts. To achieve these goals, the coalition will implement the following strategies:
1) continue projects led by youth coalition members to reduce point-of-sale advertising in off-sale outlets frequented by youth;
2) implement science-based life skills and other resilience-based prevention programs in middle schools;
3) work with an evaluator to collect and analyze school data about alcohol and other drug related offenses in the three school districts;
4) work with coalition members to identify strategies for expanding membership and moving toward sustainability;
5) provide training on science-based prevention strategies to middle school staff and coalition members;
6) organize and host a prevention summit; and
7) provide intensive training on successful prevention and collaboration model, successful environmental prevention strategies and youth driven projects.CA/NCF
