The Substance Abuse Community Action Team (SACAT) serves the City of Grants Pass, Oregon. To achieve the two goals of reducing substance abuse among youth and of strengthening partnerships with community residents and government programs, the SACAT Coalition will implement the following strategies:
1) support and expand after-school and summer school programs targeted to at-risk students with the focus on achieving success in school;
2) sustain and expand the focus of neighborhood groups, as well as continue to expand coalition membership;
3) educate citizens on the dangers of substance abuse through community forums and wide dissemination of substance abuse literature;
4) promote the 40 Developmental Assets approach throughout the community by SACAT's support of the Josephine County Focus Teen Council, and continue to educate all segments of the community on a common language that emphasizes the strengths and assets that youth possess; and
5) link neighborhood Assets to each Focus neighborhood to: a) strengthen each community; b) forge a stronger bond between residents and neighborhood programs conducted by churches, youth programs, fire stations; and c) continue support of these neighborhood projects at the end of this grant. CA/NCF
