Grand Forks Public School District #1 acts as the fiscal agent for The Answer Community Coalition. The group serves Grand Forks, ND, a rural area with a population of approximately 54,000. To achieve the two goals of reducing substance abuse among youth and of strengthening community anti-drug coalitions, The Answer Community Coalition will implement the following strategies:
1) provide community training in risk and protective factors for youth;
2) facilitate neighborhood block parties in order for people to establish relationships within neighborhoods, meet their neighborhood resource officer, and obtain information about The Answer;
3) provide substance awareness education programs targeting parents and make drug test kits and identification kits available to them;
4) develop youth leadership and decision making skills through the Ropes Challenge Course training and mentoring programs of the Grand Forks Schools Performing Arts Department and the Grand Forks Housing Authority;
5) promote parent/youth connection by implementing a Parent/Youth workgroup and by organizing an "Open Mic" night for youth in the community;
6) increase coalition membership drive efforts and member participation; and
7) provide community education by using local media, service groups, and community agencies. CA/NCF
