Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2000, $100,000)

Nampa School District #131 is the fiscal agent for the Healthy Nampa Healthy Youth coalition. The coalition, established in 1995, serves students in grades 3 through 8 from within the urban City of Nampa and the Nampa School District. The total population of the target area is 65,000. To achieve the two goals of reducing substance abuse among youth and, over time, among adults and of strengthening community anti-drug coalitions, this coalition will implement the following strategies:
1) develop a community-based early intervention program;
2) strengthen family relationships and increase use of positive parenting skills;
3) strengthen youth resistance to involvement with high-risk behaviors through participation in a broad range of skill-building activities;
4) expand the participation and collaboration of community entities; and
5) initiate the involvement of additional community partners.
