Employee and Family Resources, Inc. acts as the fiscal agent for the Community Connections coalition. The group serves Polk County, an ethnically diverse urban area with a population of approximately 347,000. Since its inception, the Community Connections coalition has recorded a number of significant achievements. Most notably, the group has successfully introduced a varied Curriculum Infusion Program, initiated a substance-free community event, and developed a series of antidrug videos.
To achieve the two goals of reducing substance abuse among youth and strengthening community antidrug coalitions, the Community Connections coalition, in its fifth year, will implement the following strategies: 1) utilizing research-based substance abuse prevention curricula in school-based and community settings; 2) developing and implementing school policies to reflect clear, consistent standards for behavior; 3) forming strategies to increase the awareness and involvement of the community in "asset-building" and substance abuse prevention activities; and 4) providing leadership on substance abuse issues during the development of a comprehensive Management Information System. ca/ncf
