The Windham Southwest Supervisory Union is the fiscal agent for the Deerfield Valley Community Partnership Coalition. The coalition serves the towns of Wilmington, Whitingham, Readsboro, Stamford, and Halifax, VT, in the rural Deer Valley area with a combined population of approximately 5,400. To achieve the two goals of reducing substance abuse among youth and of strengthening community anti-drug coalitions, the coalition will implement the following strategies:
1) facilitate the expansion of the High School Leadership Project that promotes peer mentoring;
2) sponsor community activity programs for families and community members;
3) conduct a multi-faceted media campaign targeting high school students and their parents;
4) coordinate on-going support for a teen theater group of students in grades 8-12 that focuses on substance abuse prevention strategies; and
5) expand current collaboration to make the coalition and its network more inclusive of all sectors of the community.
