PROJECT SUMMARY FOR 2000-JN-FX-0058
The City of Jackson is the fiscal agent for the Community Anti-Drug Coalition of Jackson-Madison County. The coalition serves Jackson-Madison County, TN, with a population of approximately 91,837. The goals of the coalition are to: 1) reduce substance abuse among youth and, over time, among adults, and 2) strengthen the collaboration among communities,governments, and private non-profit agencies to support community coalition efforts to prevent and reduce substance abuse. To achieve these goals, the coalition will implement the following strategies:
1) increase the perception of harmful effects of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD);
2) conduct a survey of 6-12th graders in the Jackson-Madison County public school system to measure age of onset of any drug use, frequency of use in the past 30 days, perception of risk or harm, and perception of disapproval of use by peers and adults;
3) assist in the publishing and distribution of a quarterly newsletter and provide community presentations;
4) collaborate with other substance prevention groups on activities; and
5) recruit and strengthen the community coalition.
