FY 2004 Drug-Free Communities Support Program Application for Continuation Funding

The El Dorado Public Health Department is the fiscal agent for the Community Resource Involved in Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition. The coalition serves the El Dorado Hills and Rescue communities in El Dorado County, CA. This rural area has a population of 36,965, which is 91.3% White 5.4% Hispanic, 2.8% Asian and .5% Other. The goals of the coalition are to: 1) prevent and reduce substance use/abuse among youth, adults and their families; and 2) establish and strengthen collaboration among communities. To achieve these goals, the coalition will implement the following strategies:
1) provide technical assistance to the community meetings and presentations in order to continue the sustainability component;
2) increase community awareness to substance abuse issues through a media campaign in local media, school newspapers/newsletters, and special interest publications;
3) identify citizens, youth leaders, local college students, county agencies, and service providers to invite them to the coalition's events and community meetings in an effort to increase the coalition's capacity; and
4) provide training sessions for social service providers, community leaders, schools, colleges, parent organizations and other individuals in prevention and collaborative efforts.
