Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2000, $100,000)

Genesis Prevention Coalition is a faith-based community coalition that serves low income youth and their families that reside in the City of Atlanta, which is located in Fulton County. Approximately 376,000 youth and their families are serviced by the coalition. The goals of the coalition are to: 1) reduce substance abuse among youth and, over time, among adults; and 2) strengthen collaboration among communities, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and businesses to support coalition efforts to prevent and reduce substance abuse among youth. To achieve these goals, the coalition will implement the following strategies:
1) expand the operations of the Intel Computer Clubhouse;
2) recruit new membership and increase collaboration among all sectors of the community to strengthen the coalition;
3) increase the perception of the harmful effects of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD);
4) sponsor alternative activities; and
5) establish a formal platform for information and exchange on youth substance abuse.
