Connecting Youth (CY) in Chittenden South is the fiscal agent for Prevention Matters. The coalition serves the rural towns Charlotte, Hinesburg, Shelburne, St. George, and Williston, VT, with a population of approximately 12,054. To achieve the two goals of reducing substance abuse among youth and of strengthening community anti-drug coalitions, this coalition will implement the following strategies:
1)increase the number of community "Partners in Prevention" who contribute time and money to CY programs;
2) continue to support and to promote student-led prevention activities in area schools and communities;
3) fund a community outreach and awareness campaign to spur additional local support for CY's programs;
4) expand prevention projects that have proven effective in reducing substance use; 5) strengthen collaboration among community groups and agencies to promote "no-use" norms and to ensure sustainability of prevention efforts;
6) support the student-led See Why Improv Troupe to educate business leaders and community members about substance use; and 7) work with the Media Matters subcommittee to promote no-use messages and media literacy throughout Chittenden South.
