FY 2004 Continuation Drug-Free Communities Support Program

The Northeast Michigan Community Partnership is the fiscal agent for the Comprehensive Community Substance Abuse Outreach Program, Inc. The coalition serves junior and senior high school youth, parents, teachers, and counselors in eight school districts. in the four counties of Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency, and Presque Isle in rural Northwest Michigan with a population of approximately 67,759. To achieve the two goals of reducing substance abuse among youth and of strengthening community antidrug coalitions, this coalition will implement the following strategies:
1) coordinate and strengthen existing community collaborations in order to prevent substance use and abuse;
2) expand the comprehensive network of services to educate the community's perception about substance abuse;
3) provide support services and training for community substance abuse counselors directed toward changing community norms conducive to substance abuse; and
4) aid parents and other adults of the region in understanding and assuming their responsibilities as role models for the young people in their communities. ca/ncf
