The East Tulsa Prevention Coalition serves a 40 square mile area of Tulsa, Oklahoma, an urban area with a population of 75,655, which is 71.5% White, 9% African American, 5.4% American Indian, 3.4% Asian American, and 10.3% Hispanic. The goals of the program are to: 1) reduce substance abuse among youths at targeted middle and high schools and 2) promote ongoing participation of coalition members and community partners toward the reduction of substance abuse among youth. To achieve these goals the coalition will implement the following strategies: 1) implement program resource development; 2) conduct monthly meetings for coalition members for the purpose of maintaining member involvement in the planning and implementation of prevention strategies; 3) recruit 60 youth members from high schools to participate in coalition prevention activities; 4) implement effective research-based prevention programs to accomplish the goals of the coalition; 5) increase the number of stakeholders in the coalition to 100 by the end of year five; and 6) strengthen the leadership and service capacity by 20 resident and neighborhood associations by the end of year five.CA/NCF
