FY 2004 Continuation Drug-Free Communities Support Program

Troy Community Coalition acts as its own fiscal agent. The coalition serves Troy County, a suburban community whose population is approximately 90,000. In its fourth grant year, the coalition continued to implement its program goals and objectives by partnering with Parks and Recreation and the Troy Police Department to present the coalition's summer camp program with recreational activities for at-risk youth; and presenting new prevention materials for Students in Driver's Education. To achieve the two goals of reducing substance abuse among youth and of strengthening community anti-drug coalitions, this coalition will implement the following strategies:
1) expand the elementary and middle school transition programs;
2) increase teen involvement in prevention initiatives and leadership training;
3) increase collaboration with existing and new community, business, police, faith-based, and government partners; and
4) increase awareness among students, parents, and all community members about emerging substance abuse trends and latest research findings; and
5) develop a comprehensive community needs assessment that includes data findings from the biannual student survey.CA/NCF
