Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2000, $93,991)

STEPS at Liberty Center, Inc. is the fiscal agent for C.I.R.C.L.E. (Community Impacting Relationships and Creating Lasting Effects). The coalition serves the City of Wooster located in north central Ohio, an urban area with a population of approximately 25,000. To achieve the two goals of reducing substance abuse among youth and strenthening community anti-drug coalitions, the coalition will implement the following strategies:
1) reduce substance abuse/increase protective factors among 8th graders by 10 percent by Fiscal Year 2005;
2) focus on development of a consistent, community message to youth regarding non-use of alcohol/other drugs;
3) increase alternative activities/prevention programming for youth; 4) improve parental/adult involvement with children/adolescents in Wooster and provide parental education; and
5) increase participation in the C.I.R.C.L.E Coalition by continuing collaboration affiliations, and developing an initiative to engage the faith community.
